2 recettes for Homemade Refried Beans

2 recettes for Homemade Refried Beans

Here are two different recipes for making homemade refried beans:

Recipe 1: Traditional Refried Beans

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups pinto beans, rinsed and soaked overnight
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Drain the soaked beans and add them to a large pot with enough water to cover them by about 2 inches. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until beans are tender, about 1-2 hours.

  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the cooked beans, salt, pepper, and water to the skillet. Mash the beans with a potato masher or the back of a spoon until they are the desired consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more water.

  4. Continue cooking the beans over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are heated through and the desired consistency.

  5. Serve the refried beans as a side dish, or use as a filling for tacos or burritos.

Recipe 2: Instant Pot Refried Beans

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups pinto beans, rinsed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Add the beans, onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and water to the Instant Pot. Close the lid and set the valve to sealing.

  2. Cook on high pressure for 45 minutes, then let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes before quick releasing any remaining pressure.

  3. Drain the beans, reserving the cooking liquid.

  4. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the drained beans and mash with a potato masher or the back of a spoon until they are the desired consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add some of the reserved cooking liquid.

  5. Continue cooking the beans over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are heated through and the desired consistency.

  6. Serve the refried beans as a side dish, or use as a filling for tacos or burritos.
